Glucose Breathalyzer or Breath Glucometer
 

A simple puff into a handheld device to monitor their blood sugar using a new nanotechnology. The device will be painless, reusable—no finger pricks or expensive test strips.

The sensor device will work like a breathalyzer, but rather than measuring alcohol, the sensor measures acetone to determine an individual’s blood glucose level because acetone is a biomarker for blood glucose level.
The biosensor has technique called molecular imprinting to deposit a polymer layer onto Carbon Nanotube or fullerene .The membrane has nanosized and shaped hollows that are the same shape and size as acetone molecules. “It works like a tube, allowing only acetone to be sensed through and bind to the CNT or fullerene.”
“Human exhaled breath contains more than 3,000 volatile organic compounds resulting from the body’s metabolic pathways.
When the acetone molecules attach to the graphene, it changes the material’s electrical properties. The amount of resistance in the CNT/Fullerene sensing layer changes based on the amount of acetone gas.
The sensor detects acetone levels ranging from 0.9 ppm to 10 ppm and even targeting to PBM or parts per billoionth. “The acetone concentrations in the breath of a nondiabetic range from 0.3 to 0.9 parts per million; however, in diabetics, those levels are higher. Additional electronic components will then convert the measurement to milligrams per deciliter, the standard blood glucometer reading. There is a mathematical formula in the software or algorithm that will be converted from the PPM readings into actual glucometer countings.
From analog count then it will be send to the Single boards processor to read the input and convert it into data where a mathematical formula in the software or program and an embedded algorithm that will be converted from the PPM readings into actual glucometer counts.
